A note on the collection
Two ways to
share a favourite.
Criterion invites artists into its physical Closet to choose releases and talk about them on video. Its written Top 10 lists are a separate editorial series: guests publish film selections with commentary.
The 272 is the number of articles in Criterion’s written-list index on 12 September 2026. Ties and grouped choices mean an article can contain more than ten titles.

One selected box set counts as one release. The optional contents view adds known films reached through sets. Each title counts at most once per visit or written list. “Distinct guest names” combines repeat appearances under the same normalized name; joint guests count as one group.
Profession filters use sourced public roles. People may have several roles; joint choices and unknown professions have their own filters. The catalogue includes compilations, series and entries without spine numbers.
IMDb and Letterboxd links open the matched film page where available, or a labelled search. Numeric ratings are not included in this public release.
Coverage and source notes
All 410 indexed Closet pages and 272 written lists have structured selections. Spoken recommendations, prose-only mentions, other editorial series and the changing Criterion Channel catalogue are not exhaustively transcribed here. Dates are shown only when sourced.
The source tables preserve all imported records, including overlapping historical data. They are reference tables, not extra votes in the rankings. Legacy ratings and personal demographic fields are omitted from this public export.
